Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Mites & Mildew Washout different and better than typical neem oil?
Mites & Mildew Washout is made with a proprietary process that turns the oil into micro sized droplets which easily bond to water molecules and therefore are evenly distributed throughout the spray tank and on the plant itself. This offers the user superior coverage and superior strength as compared to our competition.

How much spray does one bottle of Mites & Mildew Washout cold pressed neem oil make?

  • 2 oz. bottle concentrate makes 3 full strength quarts or 1 med strength gallon (60ml)
  • 4 oz. bottle concentrate makes 1.5-3 gallons
  • 8 oz. bottle concentrate makes 3-6 gallons
  • 16 oz. bottle concentrate makes 6-12 gallons
  • 32 oz. bottle concentrate makes 12-24 gallons

What is the actual oil content expressed as a percentage when spraying Mites & Mildew Washout neem oil at the lower suggested rate of 40 ml per gallon?
At the 40 ml per gallon rate it is .5%. At the higher rate of 80 ml per gallon it is 1%. Typically horticultural oils are not sprayed at rates to exceed 2%.

Right now my only option for spraying is about 30-40 minutes before the lights go out. Is this going to cause problems?
Yes, spraying with the lights on could potentially burn your leaves, especially if they are under a 600 watt or 1000 watt HID (HPS or MH) light. The lights must be off, and should be off for 8 hours or more if possible. In addition, if you are spraying at the 80 ml per gallon rate, we suggest raising HID lighting 5-8 inches above your normal height for 1-2 days after the spray. We have had customers spray plants with the lights on while underneath fluorescent lighting with no ill effects, although we would not recommend this. A few interruptions to the light cycle will not harm the plants.

Does Mites & Mildew Washout have a shelf-life, and if so, for how long?
No natural or chemical preservatives are added to Mites & Mildew Washout and therefore the product will experience some degradation over time. Upon Purchase, Mites & Mildew Washout should be opened within 3 months. Once open, the bottle can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 months. Beyond these time frames the efficacy of the product cannot be guaranteed (not that it won’t work or hurt your plants). When Mites & Mildew Washout is used properly, as a preventive measure on a 5-7 day basis, the time frames discussed above are more than sufficient for an entire bottle to be used without compromising its effectiveness, even in the smallest gardens.

How long can your product stay in solution and still be effective?
Azadirachtin, a major component of neem oil, is rapidly broken down. The half-life ranges from 48 minutes to 4 days in water. It also rapidly breaks down on plant leaves; the half-life is 1 – 3 days. For this reason, we recommend that the product be used immediately after mixing and applied every 5-7 days for a consistently clean garden. A fresh batch of Mites & Mildew Washout should be mixed for each spray application.
